Reflective Endnotes
This project was interesting to begin with, because of the glaring contrast between the lives of Tupac Shakur and me. For one, Tupac grew up poor, in a rough neighborhood, and facing racial discrimination. I, on the other hand, grew up in a middle-class family, in a peaceful suburb, facing little real problems. Therefore, finding any similarities was difficult. However I realized that, in the end, the American Dream is just about rising up, about coming up higher than you started. So, if Tupac rose to such fame starting out with nearly nothing, then surely I can rise in legacy with my beginning.
Tupac's life was interesting, representing so many aspects of the American Dream. Firstly, Tupac started out with nearly nothing and came up big. Secondly, Tupac overcame all adversity that came in his life and surged through it all. Lastly, Tupac left a lasting legacy that lasts even today and will continue to for decades, even centuries. Many assume Tupac to just be another good raper, but doing this project on Tupac Shakur showed me many aspects of his life that proved to me that Tupac was different, he was a revolutionary. From the topics he rapped about to the life he led, Tupac was different. While other rappers rapped about money, fame, and power, Tupac would rap about Black rights, women's activism, and the love for his mother. He died only at 25 and left a huge legacy while rappers today are well past 25 and might never reach the level of prominence Tupac has.
This project also led to a lot of introspection on my part and helped me realize what kind of person I am. I realized I am determined, disciplined, focused, sharp, emotional, etc. Again, it was difficult to begin this project, but I made a general outline focused around the word, ascension, with four main themes: upraising, upheaval, upsurge, and eminence.
